the dark side.

I was happy with my cassette tapes, until I learned that you didn't have to fast forward/rewind a CD to get to the song that you wanted to listen to. I then purged all my tapes, minus The Bangles: Greatest Hits.

I only bought movies on VHS, until George Lucas decided not to release Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith on VHS, stating it was so out of date, no one would buy it. No one, but me.

I thought the iPod was just another expensive tech-y fad that would never last, like PDA's. Why would I need this 'thing' when I had all these CD's and a CD Walkman? Oh, wait... you can have all your music combined in one small, compact device without it skipping? So with a little help from some afternoon beers, I once again gave in.

So, this brings me to today. All I needed out of a phone was to call and text. It's a phone. You use phones to verbally communicate with the world. Why would I need it to do anything more? I sit in front of a computer all day so I have access to my email and Facebook all day. I use Google maps before I leave on a trip to know where I'm going. I have a Day Planner to remember when to pay bills and to send people a birthday card.

Why? I said to myself. Why? But after witnessing it's convenience and perks on two separate road trips recently, I saw just how accessible the world was from a small, compact smoky violet device and in this day in age, that is more than my stubborn head can fight.

Hello, dark side. It's nice to meet you.

...And for the record, George Lucas, I am still waiting to complete my Star Wars VHS collection... I have GPS on my Blackberry, it will lead me straight to Skywalker Ranch. The force. Strong in me. It is.
